President condemns mosque shootings in Christchurch

Medan (ANTARA) – President Joko Widodo strongly condemned the violence in the form of shootings that took place at two mosques in Christchurch City, New Zealand.

It was earlier reported that the shootings at the two mosques in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand, caused several casualties.

“Indonesia strongly condemns this kind of violence. I also express deep sorrow over the victims of the act,” the president remarked in Dolok Sanggul District, Humbang Hasundutan, North Sumatra, Friday.

The incumbent president, as conveyed by Deputy of Protocol, Press, and Media of the Presidential Secretariat Bey Machmudin, said he had received a report regarding the incident from Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi.

Currently, the relevant ranks are still gathering information regarding the incident.

Speaking in connection with the incident, the president appealed to Indonesian citizens in New Zealand to increase vigilance.

“Everyone should be careful and alert,” he added.
